Dallas man wrongfully accused of assault, imprisoned for 31 years

A  Dallas man, who has claimed his innocence in a sexual assault case since he was charged over 30 years ago, has now been released from prison when evidence was released that claimed the same thing.

According to officials in the case, the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office has released evidence of the victim’s description of the man and it was much different then the man arrested for the crime. The man is 5-feet-6-inches tall and approximately 135 pounds.

The victim’s description of her attacker was at least 6 inches tall and nearly 65 pounds heavier. The man has claimed for years that he was too small to the guilty and this evidence now supports this claim. He served 31 years of a 99-year prison term, but is now free.

DNA evidence clears man of sexual assault charge after 26 years in prison

New DNA evidence has cleared a Dallas man of sexual assault charges after he spent 26 years in prison.

The man was convicted in 1987 of aggravated sexual assault when he was picked out of a lineup by two teenagers as the man responsible for tying them up and raping them at gunpoint.

Dallas County has exonerated 22 people, more than any other county because they save more evidence. Legislation in Austin right now is working to fix these issues so that no one else is wrongly accused. One way to do this is to reform eye-witness identification.
