Playing Pokemon Go is not an excuse when you break the law

Rogge Dunn, a lawyer in Dallas, Texas, said when people violate the law while playing entertaining mobile games, such as the latest Pokemon Go, they “have to take personal responsibility for [their] own actions.”

Dunn added that courts have to be vigilant in ensuring that operators of these kinds of games are giving proper warning to players regarding the risks to playing their games. He noted, “Courts and juries are going to be looking at this very carefully to make sure that people that are bringing forth these games are doing so in a manner that doesn’t endanger the players of the game as well as the general public.”

Should someone attempt to give a “Pikachu defense,” it wouldn’t be the only time that someone blamed entertainment for their crimes. For instance, in the 1990’s, two teenagers who committed a robbery and killed the store clerk at a convenience store said they were influenced by watching the 1994 thriller Natural Born Killers.
