Dallas police push for blood test for all DWI suspects

The Dallas police department want to join other cities like Phoenix, AZ, in mandating a blood test for all DWI suspects.

Instead of using breathalyzer tests, police would use blood tests only to confirm suspicions of drunk driving. If a suspect refused the test, police could then obtain a search warrant to obtain blood samples. However, the costs to implement this program are likely too high for the time being. Already, a third of all 3,600 DWI suspects in Dallas each year undergo blood testing.
