The North Texas Crime Commission is pushing for a new bill to pass in this legislative session that will allow for sobriety checkpoints to be used.

The sobriety checkpoint allows police to stop all drivers when they get to a certain part of the roadway. This gives police a chance to look at all drivers and check to see if they are under the influence.

The law would state that the sobriety check points will have strict regulations on where they can be located, how they are monitored and how the are regulated.

If you or a loved one has been stopped in a similar checkpoint and arrested for a DUI, you need experienced representation on your side. Contact the Dallas DUI defense lawyers of the law office of Mark T. Lassiter by calling 214-845-7007 today.

A suspected DUI driver allegedly set fire to a cop car as he was being pulled over. The 31-year-old driver was arrested after hitting a pole in a 7-eleven parking lot and then striking a vehicle on US 19.

When pulled over, police said that he was intoxicated and they put in the back of a cop car in order to investigate the scene. As police looked over the scene, they noticed smoke coming from the vehicle. They removed the DUI suspect and concluded that he had set fire to a traffic vest. The man was carrying a lighter but said that the fire was unintentional.

The man was charged with DUI, arson, careless driving, and property damage. The man refused breathe test sample and is being held in the county jail on a $10,000 bond.
