Michael Phelps arrested in Baltimore for speeding, driving drunk

Police authorities took 29-year-old American Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps into custody for driving under the influence, ESPN reported on October 1.

Phelps had been driving a white 2014 Land Rover when he was clocked speeding at 84 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone. When the officer pulled him over outside of the Fort McHenry Tunnel on Interstate 95, it was suspected that the swimmer was under the influence of alcohol. Phelps then failed sobriety tests and was charged with a DUI, speeding, and crossing double-lane lines.

Phelps apologized in a statement released the afternoon of the same day.
