Montgomery County man first prosecuted under new Texas domestic violence law

A man from Montgomery County was the first to be prosecuted under a new domestic violence law that was passed in Texas.

The new law states that if their is evidence of repeated domestic violence then then person can be sentenced more harshly.The man had previously been convicted of forgery, robbery, and burglary and was accused of being abusive to his girlfriend.

The woman was found beaten on the side of the road on the first offense and the second offense, police were called to the motel she was staying at. She would still not testify against her boyfriend. The new law states that if there are two or more family violence incidents within one year, it is now a third-degree felony.
